Semillon and Lemonade

There’s something about bottle-aged Hunter Valley semillon that is just sensational. It’s that scintillating acidity that’s so spine-tingling yet so smooth at the same time with that hard to put your finger on smell and taste.

With the stunning Tyrrell’s Vat 1 Hunter Semillon 2006 I realised exactly what it could be. Lemonade. No, not the fizzy drink lemonade. The fruit lemonade. You see my neighbour has a lemonade tree and I was given some of the bountiful crop and as soon as I smelt the wine in the glass I knew exactly what it reminded me of.

So how do you describe the beautifully fragrant smell and taste of lemonade? Well it’s lemony but not bitter, just like the 11-year-old Tyrell’s Vat 1 Hunter Semillon 2006.

And how do you describe the smell of Tyrell’s Vat 1 Hunter Semillon 2006? Well, it’s like the citrus fruit called lemonade.

Hunter Semillon is one of Australia’s vinous treasures. Lemonade citrus originates in Australia too. Two misunderstood stars making the circle complete.
